(This information was gathered from an article professionally written by Kim Zetter of Wired reported yesterday by A California student got a visit from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation this week after he found a secret GPS tracking device on his car, and a friend posted photos of it online. After reading this story I was quite disturbed to find yet another case of the F.B.I. using a tracking device to illegally track the movement of a U.S. citizen without obtining a warrant. Pretty much this means that the government is now regularly and more disturbing, openly engaging in regular surveillence of citizens without allowing them their right to be protected from illegal and baseless search and seizure. What’s even more disturbing about this trend is the fact that his discovery comes in the wake of a recent ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals saying it’s legal for law enforcement to secretly place a tracking device on a suspect’s car without getting a warrant, even if the car is parked in a private driveway.

Ok people, here we go. This is scary, scary stuff. That particular ruling is anther step towards a “Big Brother” type enviroment where your personal rights are thrown out the window. In this country shouldnt we have the right to not have high tech devices attached to our property without our knowledge if no warrant can be secured stating we are legitimatley suspcted of doing something wrong? These kinds of rulings are only the beginning people. If we don’t begin to voice our outrage over such behavior, before too long the F.B.I. is going to be planting devices in your homes, on your cell phones and generally breaching the privacy of anyone in this country they feel like (assuming they’re not already doing this, which I’m sure many of you would probably agree they are). Now let me make one thing clear, if law enforcement has enough legitimate evidence to secure a search warrant I think we all would agree there is no problem with this behavior. That being said, what if you’re an Arab American and they’ve decided to profile you based on your race? Are you content to be monitored constantly because of where you were born? These kind of actions clearly show that our leadership is allowing a country that used to be the most free on the planet to slowly creep to a Chinese like empire where you have no personal rights and when you do, they are either violated secretly or violated and then supported by changes in law meant to allow them to justify they’re violation of your rights. Are we really ok with this?? Let me hear what you think because I can’t believe I’m the only one who sees this as a growing problem.
